What is a Licensed acupuncturist?
A licensed acupuncturist (LAc) is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, licensed by each individualized state board of medical examiners.   The scope of practice for an LAc is diverse, containing: acupuncture, massage, herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and lifestyle management.  There are approximately 35 accredited acupuncture colleges in the U.S., offering a three or four year Masters degree culminating in a Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM).  I graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, a top 5 school for the past 10 years and the first to offer a doctorate degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine (DAOM).
